Asian elephant (Elephas maximus)

Size and Weight:

African bush elephant: Can weigh up to 6,000 kg.

African forest elephant: Weighs between 2,700 – 6,000 kg.

Asian elephant: Typically weighs around 4,000 kg.

Lifespan:

African bush elephant: Lives 60 – 70 years.

African forest elephant: Also lives 60 – 70 years.

Asian elephant: Has a lifespan of about 48 years.

Gestation Period: Elephants have one of the longest gestation periods in the animal kingdom:

Asian elephant: 18 – 22 months.

African bush elephant: About 22 months.

Speed: The African bush elephant can run at speeds of up to 40 km/h.

Social Structure: Elephants are highly social animals and live in groups called herds. They are known for their strong family bonds and remarkable memory.
